The Pallaresa is a hardy breed, adapted over centuries to the mountains of the Pallars. In the past it was a triple-purpose breed, used for work, meat and milk. Today it is raised for meat, under traditional mountain management.
The animals spend the summer on high pastures, between 1,500 and 2,500 meters above sea level, and the winter on the farms, where they are fed with forage harvested during the summer. This extensive management, tied to the land and to the rhythm of the seasons, gives a meat with the character of the landscape where the breed grows.
Eating Pallaresa beef is also a way to help preserve a native Catalan breed in danger of extinction. Every animal raised helps keep mountain farming alive, along with a unique genetic heritage.
Some of the Association’s farms sell their meat directly. One of them is EcoPallaresa, which offers organic Pallaresa veal in 5 and 10 kg lots. You can find more information at ecopallaresa.cat.
